[Your Name]

Introduction

XXXX has defined requirements for materials, installation methods, and placement of permanent pipeline markers along the ROW.  These markers are intended to provide a warning to potential excavators of the presence and approximate location of the pipeline.  They are also used to communicate contents of the pipe to first responders and provide emergency contact information.

Materials

All Materials to be provided by Rhino Marking and Protection Systems

Marker Placement

At all locations along the ROW while standing at any pipeline marker, a pipeline marker must be clearly visible in either direction.

Markers must be placed in the following locations to maintain clear Line-of-Sight:

  • Both sides of all road crossings – a road to be defined as any passage traveled frequently enough to require maintenance.
  • All water crossings, including seasonal water crossings (dry ditches and washes)
  • All railroad crossings
  • At intervals NOT TO EXCEED 500 feet on the ROW
  • At all elevation changes greater than 16 feet in order to maintain line-of-sight

Existing Marker Maintenance

Markers must be readable and free of excessive wear.  All markers faded, cracked, broken, or with compromised structural integrity must be replaced.

Decal Replacement:

  • Post must be clean, dry, free of loose debris, at a temperature above 40° F and not to exceed 120° F
  • Surface to be cleaned and scraped prior to installation
  • Decal to be placed directly over existing decal, covering all contact information and warning message

Sign Maintenance:

  •  All signs to be inspected for loose or missing hardware
  •  Signs with missing hardware, holes, or significant fading to be replaced
  • Posts bent more than 12° to be straightened or removed

New Marker Installation

TriView – 3 Sided Markers

  • Dig a hole 18” deep and approximately 6” wide
  • Extend integrated anchor flaps punched into the bottom of the post
  • Insert marker, holding straight
  • Backfill hole, tamping frequently
