Minneapolis was host to Super Bowl LII, and during the week leading up to the big game, the Minnesota winter lived up to its reputation.
Knowing all the foot traffic that would be taking place downtown, several organizations in the damage prevention industry jumped at the opportunity to promote excavation safety and spread the message to call 811 before digging.
Xcel Energy and Gopher State One Call teamed up to buy 2,500 trapper hats embroidered with the “Call 811” logo on the front to give away during Super Bowl week.
On the Thursday prior to the game, members of the Minnesota Regional Common Ground Alliance headed to downtown Minneapolis to give the hats to football fans, revelers, and local media covering the game and festivities from all around the country.
With temperatures hovering around a balmy 0 degrees, the hat giveaway was an overwhelming – and quick! – success, as all the hats were appropriated in less than two hours!
To receive a trapper hat, people had to answer one important question: What number do you call before you dig?
